Perfect Vision Presents
Perfect vision optical announces the arrival of the cazal range of eyewear now available at the strand arcade. Perfect vision optical continues to dazzle with unique eyewear brands which are setting trends overseas markets and can now be found in our sydney concept store.
Our latest acquisition is the fabulous cazal range. Popular in the early 80s and now a staple with too cool new york pop artists artists like jay z and rihanna but was originally an integral part of the hip hop scene.
Hand made in Germany the brand caters to consumers who want something extra with their sunglasses — not just basic protection from the sun but also to make a statement. The super future aesthetic, appeals to celebrities with a flair for lavish design and has contributed to the brand’s cult sensation and success.
The “It’s Like That” trio Run-D.M.C.’s Darryl McDaniels is widely attributed with ballooning the cult sensation of CAZAL eyewear in the 80s and altogether popularizing the iconic 80s hip hop look. He was a fan of the 607s — one of the first pairs ever released.
In the 1986 comedy She’s Gotta Have It, Spike Lee’s first feature length film, he is seen starring as Mars Blackmon whose signature look included a pair of CAZAL’s. In addition to being a groundbreaking film for black filmmakers, the Air Jordan ad campaigns that followed featuring Lee’s iconic look alongside Michael Jordan are credited as a landmark in the evolution in sneakers into massively profitable items of fashion.
In the world of west coast hip hop pioneers, Rodney-O and Joe Cooley are at the top and the “Everlasting Bass” duo could often be seen wearing CAZAL 951s and 955s.
“If you buy a handcrafted pair of glasses or sunglasses, you want to see the tiny inaccuracies, the straight, raw edges of the plastic, the pins - they give character, make them unique to the wearer. The Cutler and Gross customer has always been an individual. Eccentric maybe, but a rare breed, certainly.” - Graham Cutler
